ABOUT ME

Born in 1978 in Italy, I was trained as a sociologist. I hold a PhD in Information Systems and Organizations (University of Trento). From April 2005 to June 2006 I was a research assistant at the Department of Sociology and Social Research at the University of Trento and a research fellow from November 2008 to March 2014. Then, I got a position as a senior research fellow at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science from February 2014 to February 2016. In 2016, I moved to Mälardalen University.

I am very much interested in exploring the relationship between “the social” and “the material”, especially in health and welfare care.

Practice-based theorizing and science and technology studies (STS) inform my work. My studies are grounded on a qualitative methodology but are also marked by experimental approaches and methods alternative to the most traditional research techniques. In this regard, I am a certified Lego Serious Play facilitator and am also trained to apply the Open Space Technology method.

I am inspired by art-based methods and participatory design methods.

I am a registered EU Expert. I regularly review papers for international journals and international conferences and, in 2007, I got the special mention of “Excellent reviewer” from the Senior Technical Program Chair of ACM-CHI2017 Conference. I organize and co-organize conference tracks and workshops in my areas of expertise (see below). I am member of the Council of EASST-European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (2021-2024). I am also member of the Nordic Research Network: Health and Welfare Technology aimed to consolidate knowledge, research, higher education and experiences in the field of health and welfare technology (HWT) with a user perspective. I am one of the founding members of Socio-Gerontechnology Network that is meant to bring together international researchers with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds (including STS, critical and cultural gerontechnology, sociology, anthropology, age studies, design sciences and education) who share an interest in exploring the entanglements of ageing and technologies. I am the author of a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as of chapters and conference proceedings. My contributions are marked by interdisciplinary collaborations that are a unique source of energy and inspiration. I am the co-author of the book Il genere nelle organizzazioni (Carocci-Le Bussole 2009; published in Italian) and the author of the book Key Concepts in Science and Technology Studies (Studentlitteratur 2020).

I love art in all its shapes and am terribly fascinated by its visionary and disrupting power.

Michela
